Deer Shed Darlings, you have been invited to attend the mysterious and magical movieoke cinema event at Deer Shed this year. “The Labyrinth Masquerade Ball,” hosted by the Goblin King himself, will guide you on the “Rules of the Labyrinth” — who to cheer for, who to boo & who to wolf whistle (Jareth, obviously!). All will be made crystal clear at the offing, including an audience-wide sing-along to “Dance Magic.”
Dress to impress — masks are a must, it is a masquerade ball after all!

London International Animation Festival Shorts
The London International Animation Festival is the UK’s largest and longest-running celebration of animation, and they are bringing five of their dazzling shorts to Deer Shed. Perfectly curated for young children and families by showcasing charismatic characters on exciting adventures with amazing visuals and captivating plots. From everyday moments transformed into the magical, to inventive storytelling that sparks the imagination, these films showcase animation at its most vibrant, clever and enchanting.

Hello Summer
Sea, sun and the promise of the perfect family getaway… until a harsh reality hits. In this witty Slovak animation, a prosperous holiday begins to unravel when the hotel disappoints, dinner proves daring, and the luggage goes rogue. Hello Summer is perfect for all - and shows us the truth of travelling with family: often when plans fall apart, the memories start to bloom. Directed by Martin Smatana & Veronika Zacharová (Slovakia, 2024).

The Girl with the Occupied Eye
This is a modern fairy tale with a pointed edge, directed by André Carrilho. A little girl moves through the world without really seeing anything - with her eyes fixed firmly on the phone in her hand, as people and possibilities pass her by. A film centring on humour with a quiet yet realistic sadness, which allows for a considerate reflection on modern connections and childhood in this new digital age (Portugal, 2024).

The Night Tunnel
What begins as a simple beach game becomes a strange, extraordinary journey when two children who are digging from opposite sides of the world manage to meet in the middle. Their tunnel leads them onward to an adventure to the North Pole, where the discovery continues. The duo discovers friendship and a little bit of magic on the way. Directed by Annechien Strouven, this story is tender and equally imaginative. This animation celebrates connection across any distance. (Belgium/France, 2024).

Matilda and the Great Escape
This film is narrated by the Emmy nominated Bella Ramsey, and its tale follows Matilda, a pig raised on a farm who makes a bid for freedom to protect herself and her piglets. As she slips beyond the fences into the unknown, the farmers begin to chase them, turning into a race against time. It’s a beautiful story of courage, instinct and her strong will to survive. Directed by Ash Reed (UK, 2024).

In Between
When little Nora’s parents split up, her world literally splits in two. She must travel between both hemispheres to see them, but with every journey, her backpack grows heavier and heavier; the weight of memories, emotions and responsibility grows. This inventive French animation turns family life into a magical metaphor by blending humour with stunning visual storytelling. Directed by Nour El Achkar, Roxane David, Morgane Chauvet, Flora Rouvel, Lucie Perales, Cindy Fanchonna & Sacha Moreau (2024).
